On Location

The work of the United Nations – through its various Agencies, Funds, Programmes and Offices – reaches every corner of the globe with a presence in over 190 countries and territories. CCOI can assist storytellers in gaining access to the Organization’s various sites around the world, from its Headquarters in New York to its many field missions, including peacekeeping missions, refugee camps, humanitarian relief operations, development projects and UN Information Centres (UNICs).

The United Nations complex is one of New York’s most iconic locations.

The gleaming Secretariat building houses many of the Organization’s admin offices and the famous delegates’ dining room. Next to the Secretariat sits a domed building, housing the General Assembly and Security Council chambers.

For two weeks each September, the Heads of State from across the world convene at Headquarters for the General Assembly’s high-level debate, while threats to global peace and security are tackled by the United Nations Security Council throughout the year.

Geneva, Switzerland: European Headquarters of the United Nations

The United Nations Office at Geneva is housed at the historic Palais des Nations, originally built for the League of Nations in the 1930s. A beautiful art deco building overlooking Lake Geneva, the Palais is the largest centre for conference diplomacy in the world.

Many of the Palais’ conference rooms have been decorated and furnished by gifts from Member States. They include the Council Chamber, home to the Conference on Disarmament, and the Human Rights and Alliance of Civilizations Room, where ministers meet for the annual high-level segment of the Human Rights Council.
